Growing Salvia DivinorumSalvia Divinorum is a semi-tropical plant with large leaves and a distinctive thick, hollow, square green stem. Salvia Divinorum grows several meters tall under optimum conditions. It is not uncommon for the stalk to snap when the plant becomes bigger. Salvia Divinorum is a simple to grow. The Ideal Temperature for Salvia Plants is between 60 and 70 degrees. Higher Temperatures are okay, providing plants receive enough water. Since Salvia originates from the rain forest it prefers a humid environment, growers tend to make use of Humidity tents and humidifiers to achieve the desired conditions. Saliva from cuttingsWe advise obtaining Salvia Cuttings since Salvia Divinorum Seeds are very rare and hard to obtain. The plants grow best in partial shade, in well-watered, but well-drained, soil. The roots must not be kept constantly soaked, or root-rot will set in and kill the plant. By placing the cutting in soil and covering with a Glass Jar to keep the humidity level up, roots can form in just a couple of weeks. No nutrients should be added at this stage since the young cutting are very delicate. Salvia will tell you when it is getting too dry: its leaves will droop. Be sure to water it at the first sign of mild drooping--do not let the plant become limp. The soil should drain well but should be kept moist. Salvia Divinorum is a very versatile plant and can produce under a wide variety of lighting conditions. Salvia Divinorum does best with a few hours of partial sunlight a day. It can do well when grown indoors near a window. It can handle more sun if kept well watered and misted frequently. It can also handle moderately deep shade. |
